Sue Glassford lives and works in the north of Cumbria close to the northern fells, the Solway Estuary, and Hadrian’s Wall country.
The influence of her environment is crucial as are the rhythms and patterns of the year, the land and the changing light. Travel has also become central to her work and her oil paintings depict memories of the places she has visited from around the world. The sense of “place” rather than “a place” is important to convey the atmosphere and feeling of a subject rather than simply recording it.
She has worked in a variety of media including etching, oils and mixed media, watercolour and pastel, and has been a member since 1993.
