Linocuts

Linocuts

A relief print produced from a linoleum block. Sharp tools are used to cut and carve an image in reverse into the block. The areas cut out of the block will not print and will stay the colour of the paper. The uncut raised surface is inked and printed onto paper. Different sized marks and cuts are used to create texture and tonal effects in the print. Linocuts tend to have a bold graphic quality.
