Since graduating from Harrow School of Art & Design in 1994, Hester has specialised in printmaking. She lives in the Yorkshire Dales and works from her garden studio. She is a keen fell runner and is out in all weathers. Her physical experience of a place and her wildlife encounters inspire her work. By using multiple plates, painted textures, and intricate cutting in her collagraphs, she aims to draw attention to and celebrate the natural landscape. Hester is a member of Leeds Fine Artists, Printmakers Circle and Ålgården Studios in Sweden. Career highlights have been an Extending Practise Award from Chrysalis Arts which enabled her to work with the British and Yorkshire Museums creating prints inspired by the Vale of York Viking Hoard & her selection for ‘Mirror Images’, an international printmaking project. Hester has been shortlisted twice for the New Lights Prize Exhibition and work that she created for her large-scale print installation, ‘Within These Walls’, has been purchased for public display in Västra Gotäland, Sweden. She recently completed a funded project with the Dales Countryside Museum which included printing their extensive collection of wood engraving blocks created by Marie Hartley MBE and creating a new body of work exhibited in 2020.
