I love to use oil paint, as it's versatile, enduring, subtle and endlessly challenging.
Drawing in graphite and charcoal is really important to me too. It's very satisfying to use charcoal I've made myself. I've tried different types of stems from the garden, like hawthorn and wild rose. Complementing this more subjective approach, my colour palette is currently less naturalistic and experimentation keeps things interesting and fresh for me.
Academic knowledge is great, but I don't want it to limit my creativity. Letting the painting lead the away is much more fun and rewarding!
